Signs of Muscles Spasms

General stiffness and lack of forward propulsion
Favouring one canter lead
Throwing of head when asking for transitions
Heavier contact on one rein
Refusals to jump or consistently jumping to one side
Unexplained changes in behaviour such as napping, bucking, rearing
Dislike to being tacked up or rugged up

 

Common Causes of Muscles Spasms

The reasons for any spasms will vary from horse
to horse, but can include:

Conformation
Saddle Fit
Compensation for previous/other injury
Fittening/exercise regime

One or more of these could play a part in a
horses’ soreness. As well as treating, it is
important to try and identify the reasons for it
